Team Lynas Takes on Belfast Relay Marathon

This year, two teams from Lynas will take part in the Belfast Relay Marathon to raise funds for Chest, Heart & Stroke Northern Ireland.

For those involved, the decision reflects a mix of personal challenge, wellbeing and supporting a cause close to their hearts. For some, the marathon is about pushing beyond their comfort zone.

Ruth Kerrigan, signed up to challenge herself and commit to a long-held ambition of becoming “a runner” - making the decision quickly before doubt had time to creep in.

Marie Lindsay, inspired by a milestone birthday, is using the relay as an opportunity to move beyond her usual 5K distance and work towards something bigger.

For others, running has become an important outlet alongside busy working lives.

Emma Whiteside has found returning to running beneficial for her mental wellbeing, giving her focus and motivation outside of work.

Conor King, Distribution Manager, is usually responsible for keeping deliveries moving smoothly but on race day he’ll be managing a very different kind of route. He sees the relay as a win-win, improving both mental and physical health while contributing to fundraising and team-building.

Several runners are also taking part in memory of loved ones.

Mark Elder is dedicating every mile to his grandparents and father, running in their memory and in support of the vital services the charity provides to families.

Donna Coyles is running in memory of her mum, who suffered multiple strokes. With her mum’s anniversary falling just before race day, she knows she’ll feel her support with every step.

Maurice Devenney, having lost his mother to a heart attack and witnessed the impact it had on those closest to him says the challenge is both “emotional and motivating”.

Matt McGookin, our Area Sales Manager, is running in memory of his grandfather, while also embracing the opportunity to get a personal best. No stranger to chasing ambitious targets, Matt thrives on a bit of healthy competition!

Beyond individual motivations, early morning runs and cheering each other on have helped build stronger connections across the business. As Sales and Commercial Director Chris Gamble puts it, it’s been a chance to prioritise health, balance work and family life and connect with colleagues outside the usual working environment.

With every mile completed, our runners are helping to fund the life-changing services provided by Chest, Heart & Stroke Northern Ireland. If you would like to donate visit below:
